Earth Hour at Indy?!
I convenced my husband today that we should drive all the way downtown Indy for the Earth Hour, because the Green Piece Indy girls planned an event at the South Bend Chocolate Cafe. IPL would be turning off their lights with a count down.
We power off everything in the house and went downtown. It was nice to see all the people coming out at the Chocolate cafe for the event. It started to rain pretty hard right around 8:30pm. We went out and stood in the rain to see the “Change” at Earth Hour. All we saw was IPL building turned off their color lights. Not the spotlight on the roof, not the bright lights in their lobby, of course, not any lights around the Circle.
Our capital building was as bright lit as usual on a Saturday night.
Southbend Chocolate Cafe turned down all their lights and Green Piece Indy event enjoyed their treats with candle lights. But somehow I still feel disappointed. It’s a small step, but a little too small for me.

I saw a website that showed the whole world at earth hour, and USA was the brightest! I was a little disappointed to see only a little amount of people in Indiana remembered or even heard of “Earth Hour.” The next day, I asked a few people if they did anything for earth hour, and all of them said that they never heard of it!
I know that my family always remembers, and this year, we went to Whole Foods, a grocery store that sells mostly locally grown or organic foods, and they had their main lights turned off, and only generator lights on. They were passing out flashlights to the first 50 people, so my family got there as soon as we could.
Next year, I hope to see more people participate in Earth Hour.
