Just got back from another one of my business trip.

This time, at least Charlotte Airport has blue recycle bins for newspapers.

I’m wondering how many plastic cups and aluminum cans were used and put into trash from just the flight I was on. It was a full 737 flight. Looked like everyone but me used a plastic cup (I brought my thermo cup, as usual). 160 people on the flight, 160 cups, roughly 80 cans and at least 20 1-liter plastic water bottles. That’s just from one short flight!! Not to mention 160 of the plastic packets of mix nuts (which the 5th ingredient was partially hydrogenated oil….). No wonder petroleum based plastic business is such a BIG business!!

Imagine all that recyclable from every single flight, every single day, every single airport… ended up in the landfill. How Sad.

One soft drink can recycled by each elementary school student in America would save 24.8 million cans. That would be enough aluminum to create 21 Boeing 737 airplanes.

Now imagine if all the airlines recycled the aluminum cans they served on the flights, how many airplanes could be built out of the huge amount of aluminum they throw out…
