Carbon Offset for Business Trips?
Recently, I went on a business trip, one and a half a day trip to Long Island, NY.
During my trip, there were so many things I experienced that made me want to screen!!
It’s always amazing to see how many people travel for business every day at the airport. Laptops, iPod, cellphone… pretty much every person has some kinda of electronic gadgets in his/her hand.
JFKAirportAll three airports (Indianapolis, Detroit, JFK), I did not see even ONE recycle bin. Since no one can bring their own beverages to the gate any more, everybody has to pay for bottle water or drinks at the airport, but no recycle bin for plastics or can…. I brought my empty thermo and got tea at Starbucks (even though the girl looked at me like I was crazy).
This was my first time at JFK airport. Besides the chaos due to the huge amount of travelers, and unclear directions, what really bother me is the modules – vending machine and
arcade games combine. Junk foods and sugary drinks are not bad enough, now they add money eating video games with them! If it’s only in one corner, or a designated room, that will be fine with me, but those modules are everywhere! The arrival hall looked like a Grayhound bus stop rather than an International Airport!
My flight out of JFK idled by the gate for more than 30 minutes before it started taxing. Have you ever wondering what type and how good the air quality is like inside the airplane? I’m very sensitive to smells. I could smell the diesel exhaust inside the plane, especially during idling and taxing. My plane then taxied for another 30 minutes before it could take off because, well, “that’s how JFK airport is” as my pilot put it.
I wonder if it become mandatory for companies to buy carbon offset when they send their employees on business trips, how many trips would really be necessary?
